In 2024, charitable trust Film is Fabulous! screened the first episode of the BBC TV series The Troubleshooters – ‘Is That Tiger, Man’ – to an appreciative cinema audience, having returned a 16mm film print of the episode to the BBC Archives.
Following on from the oil industry based adventure series Mogul, the episode, directed by Moira Armstrong and written by John Elliot, relaunched the show with a new title, and updated format and cast.
The recovery of 'Is That Tiger, Man’ captured the imagination of TV historian Jim Trenowden who pondered how such an exciting, well-made series had become a footnote at best?
Jim made it his mission to learn all he could about the show and, after gaining unique access to production documentation, the end result will be Operation Black Gold – The Untold Story of Mogul and The Troubleshooters, the definitive guidebook, which will follow the production of the series from inception through to the various attempts to get a spin-off launched, delving into the making of each episode and the globetrotting filming that brought it to life.
